Schomberg Old Sleepers - Established 1979/80
The Schomberg Old Sleepers Hockey Club was officially formed (after lengthy discussions) in the late winter of 1978/1979. Our inaugural 'season' was '79/'80. The founding fathers consisted of 3 actual hockey players and one wannabe - Ron Morrison (deceased), Doug Middleton, Gerald Sweeney and Chuck Frost.
We spent a considerable amount of time crafting the SOHC Constitution, the majority of which remains intact today (with minor revisions over the years). The principles we agreed to were to form a community-based, Schomberg-area hockey 'club' consisting of players who enjoyed each other's company and demonstrated a willingness to actively participate in the operation of the club for the betterment of the members and the community, versus players had no interest in anything beyond playing.
Our roster started as four regular members and a number of spares.
We added regular members over time, as appropriate. Today, the general rule of thumb to become an Old Sleeper is:

- You've got have a penchant for drinking beer
- You've got to love to play hockey
